(DENVER- January 2015) Since 2011 RedLine has served as the nerve center for Denver’s

 

Month of Photography exhibition and is excited to return in this same role in 2015!  Mark

 

Sink will also return to curate this year’s Month of Photography’s signature exhibition,

 

Playing with Beauty. Sink is a curator, artist, photographer, and is the champion of infusing

 

and connecting Denver for two months with the most exciting and innovative work going on

 

in the field of contemporary fine art photography. Playing with Beauty specifically explores

 

how the loaded subject of beauty is now being approached, or “played with”, in photography

 

today.

 

As Sink explains,

 

I have always been interested in the impact beauty has in our lives and culture. Examples of

 

this are in early historical surveys of the romanticized west and continue on to todays’

 

contemporary visions. Through MoP’s signature exhibition, I explore this timeless interest in

 

the human form as well as our culture of celebrity worship. Beauty drives my personal work

 

and life and I am interested how others deal with the subject through the lens. Visitors to

 

Playing with Beauty can anticipate works exploring this subjective and often controversial

 

topic in art; ranging from classical to conceptual, from humorous to dark.

 

 

A long-debated subject in the medium of photography, Sink has curated 25 artists to reveal

 

how beauty is being portrayed, explored and interpreted today.  He has also offered the

 

subject matter of beauty to be explored as a MoP theme (though not mandatory) and many

 

galleries in Denver are participating (e.g. Center for Fine Art Photography, Gildar Gallery,

 

and The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver).

 

Playing with Beauty is a group exhibition and will be on view at RedLine through April 19,

2015.

Press Preview

 

The press preview will include a tour with Mark Sink, joined by Conor King and Rupert

 

Jenkins, curators of Role Play, presented by the Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC)

 

in RedLine’s Project Space. Role Play is presented by CPAC for Month of Photography and

 

will open the same evening in RedLine’s Project Space.

Playing with Beauty and Role Play is the second set of exhibitions in a five-part series

 

entitled Play it Forward presented by RedLine in 2015. This series of exhibitions,

 

partnerships and public programs explores the intersection of art and play and its important

 

role in building healthy communities.

«Il y a quelques années j'ai réalisé que parfois nous pouvons être «laide» pour être «belle»

 

 

ou ce que la société pense être «belle».



Susanne Junker sera d’abord mannequin dans les années 90. Photographiée par les plus

 

importants photographes de mode elle fera les couvertures du ELLE et autres grands

 

magazines de mode. En 1999 elle décide de tout arrêter pour se réapproprier son image en se

 

photographiant par morceaux choisis. Son travail apparaît alors comme une quête identitaire

 

en contradiction affirmée avec le diktat des studios de mode.

 

 

ID-Identity est un de ses derniers projets photographiques créé en 2006, son studio mobile a

 

voyagé de la Chine à l’Europe, dans des Musées et Institutions où sont organisées les séances

 

photos.

 

Le concept est de photographier les femmes pendant qu'elles se maquillent et cela sans

 

miroir. L’appareil photo devient le miroir invisible. Chaque séance photo est individuelle, le

 

modèle est libre de choisir ce qu'elle veut faire, tout comme le temps qu’elle prendra pour se

 

maquiller. Certaines femmes utiliseront juste une couleur et 5 minutes suffiront, d’autres

 

prendront plus de temps. Les photographies ne seront pas retouchées.



C’est l’occasion pour certaines d’entre vous de participer a un processus de création et de

 

devenir le temps d’une séance un des éléments de cette œuvre.

 


La galerie ADDICT deviendra le Samedi 10 Janvier 2015 de 14.00 à 19.00 un Studio

 

d’artiste. Le nombre de place étant limitées veuillez confirmer votre présence et le créneau
