In 2018, Brett Kavanaugh was nominated to the US Supreme Court amid allegations from a professor of psychology that he had tried to rape her when she was a student. In response, during his US Senate hearing he repeatedly stated: „I like beer“. The sentence, which was intended to exonerate him, seemed bizarre and, in its banality, in an exemplary way described Kavanaugh‘s male mediocrity and a blatant lack of problem awareness. For me, this statement became the starting point for a series of works in which I write words on sanitary pads, i.e. everyday items for women that are covered in shame, then stick them to my forehead and take a shower with them. An ironic cleansing ritual to wash off the male nonsense and sometimes the female too.

Art from the sanitary sector comes with controversy. One of the most famous works of art of the avantgarde―a urinal called Fountain, long attributed to the artist Marcel Duchamp as a so-called readymade―may not have been created by him but by the eccentric Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven. And what if, back in 1917, the Baroness or Duchamp had exhibited a sanitary pad instead? Anyhow, the museum transforms an object into art.
